Paint Historic Old New Castle '26

Paint Historic Old New Castle (PHONC '26)

Sponsored by Mo'zArt Gallery, voted Best Art Gallery in upstate Delaware in 2024 in Delaware Today Magazine.

Applications are now being accepted from regional artists to participate in the Paint Historic Old New Castle (PHONC '26) plein air painting competition and exhibit. The event will be held on Saturday, May 16, and will again coincide with the "Day In Old New Castle". Many visitors to the town on that day will have the chance to view your work in progress and at the exhibition. This presents a great opportunity for sales for you. And there is no sales tax in Delaware and your sales are commission-free.

We are fortunate to welcome back the accomplished artist, Abigail McBride, as our Awards Judge for this event. Many of you who have painted in previous PHONCs know Abigail to be an excellent judge and teacher who entertains the audience with her insightful descriptions of the winning paintings and also some almost winners. There will be six cash awards given totalling over $1300. One of those awards will be the Emerging Artist Award specifically for painters with less than 3 years of experience of painting outside or in the studio.

Artists may start painting as early as 8 am and conclude by 12:30. Judging will begin and awards announcements will be around 1:30 and the show will conclude by 3:30. . Weather permitting, the exhibition of your work will be outside at an area easily visible to the many visitors and residents of town. Past history sug
gests that you price your work reasonably for likely sales. Another couple things to consider is that this year is the 250th birthday of the United States and also of the separation of the lower three colonies of Pennsylvania to become the State of Delaware. One of the awards is given by the New Castle Historical Society .... there are historical sites in our area. Also, residents have enjoyed seeing their properties being painted by interested and interesting artists. In the past, several have purchased those one of a kind paintings to grace their homes. But of course your priority is painting something that speaks to you.

I will have more information to relay to participating artists as time proceeds and I hope to anticipate your questions. If you need to ask something now just email me at [email protected], the same address you should use to apply. The application fee remains the same $25 as before. The check should be made out to me but not to Mo'zArt Gallery. Lunch is included. A real bargain.

So think about joining us but don't wait too long. I am accepting up to 25 participants and as of March 1st seven have already entered. When you do apply please tell me if you are applying in the Emerging Artist Category. Consider encouraging your friends or family who are new to painting to apply and grow their painting experience
in a welcoming environment.

I hope you can come to New Castle and have some fun.
